Weekly Assembly

Term 2 Week 2

10 - 17 January 2021

The SLT or any educator who is conducting the assembly will address the students positively saying good morning to all. One can start this assembly with the sign of the cross: "In the name of the Father, and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen"

Today we are going to start by watching this video clip:

The Way To Happiness video: Respect The Religious Beliefs of Others

Ask students to stop for a few seconds to think about what they saw.

We started today’s assembly with this video clip because during this week, on January 16th we celebrate the International day for religious freedom. Around the world, there are many different religions. Our religions are ways in which we share with others our personal experience with God. We must respect religious freedom because this is one of the fundamental human rights. Showing respect does not mean that we say we are all alike but showing respect means being aware of our differences so that we can understand one another.

Reflective Thought

For our small reflection this morning we are going to reflect upon the encouraging words of Pope Francis:

(use the video with no sound and read out aloud the subtitles while the kids watch the video with no sound)

Pope Francis' prayer intentions for January 2016 - Video’s transcript:

“Most of the planet’s inhabitants declare themselves believers.

This should lead to dialogue among religions.

We should not stop praying for it and collaborating with those who think differently.

I have confidence in the Buddha.

I believe in God.

I believe in Jesus Christ.

I believe in God, Allah.

Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways.

In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty we have for all: we are all children of God.

I believe in love.

I believe in love.

I believe in love.

I believe in love

I hope you will spread my prayer request this month:

That sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce the fruits of peace and justice.

I have confidence in your prayers.”

Dear God, we thank you for your love and your promise to be with us. May we always respect each other's religion and beliefs. This morning we are going to ask you to protect and fill with courage those who are being persecuted and are suffering because of their religion. Please touch the hearts of all the leaders around the world so that they encourage respect towards all religions. Amen.
